Biggest Subbuteo collection

Hi,

Firstly to introduce myself: I'm a journalist - but I come in peace.

I
work for a press agency and got a bit nostalgic the other day when
talking to some mates in the pub about our days playing Subbuteo.

It
basically got me thinking that it would make a great story if I could
find the person with the biggest collection of Subbuteo. Or maybe a
tournament winner who still plays with the original first edition kit
they bought or something else equally quirky like this.

My
thinking was it would be a nice fun piece for the papers and help remind
people that despite video games and the like, Subbuteo is still going.

Plus, like myself, Subbuteo holds a certain nostalgia of times gone by. So I think it would be quite a popular read anyway.

Any
help anyone may be able to offer in shedding some light on anyone with a
uniquely large collection or any other quirky tales associated with the
world of Subbuteo would be very much appreciated.

Look forward to hearing from you guys. Think I'll take a look around and explore the rest of the forum, too.

Hi J... Welcome to the Forum.

There have been quiet a few articles in recent years about the nostalgic side of Subbuteo. Finding someone with a large collection would be quiet easy, as to whether they want to share it with the world is another thing.

I'm sure you may find some good ideas for your article by trawling through the forum.

I agree it is hard, as most people fear being in the papers. It is quite fun once you get round to it and certainly something to show the grand children!

I'll have a look around, but if anyone does know of anyone with a large collection then please let me know.

I suppose it depends on what you call a large collection. There are plenty of people on here including myself with team collections over 500...

Lots of collecting goes on through people selling Teams through Auctions and wanted adverts. So Teams are easily purchased.

I'll leave the individuals to contact you if they are interested. Personally, my stuff is not easily accessible, so it would be too much hassle i'm afraid.

Have you tried looking at Oldsubbuteo on Youtube? There is a massive movement...especially in Italy. Also check out the www.oldsubbuteoforum.it

There is an English section. Good excuse for a trip to Sunny Italy Very Happy

does anyone have an update regarding this documentary.as i remeber they were filming at maidenhead and if im not mistaken they were filming at fingers catherdal of subbuteo

The film should be released in spring ... If they can raise the funds needed to finish, soon they should launch a crownfounding campaign.

i have a few hundred teams and other stuff but i doubt its near the biggest.

can think of a few people who have bigger but as spud says its for them to come forward really as opposed to put them in the frame

Did you manage to get the guy with the biggest collection yet, mate? It would be intriguing to learn who that might be. Wouldn't it be something for all of us to declare what we have in our collections:)

I know a few chaps with large collections. Probably someone who collects everything Subbuteo (every type of figure etc.).

Do you think Pete Whitehead might also have a collection?
