| Interesting how the kits changed over the years, reflecting the times.
I'll be painting up an earlier Carford on HW-style figures soon.

Thanks, Jim. Not quite 'Subbuteo blue' I know (and apparently Mel Rovers had 'navy blue' shorts), but this blue looks closer to that used in the Tiger comics/annuals.

Was thinking of painting up a team but have a question about the socks. The only RotR publication I have is a 1968 annual which has a picture on the front cover showing red socks with a yellow band at the top. May be they used some older artwork as the b&w pictures inside show lighter socks than the band ?

| A most unusual kit worn by Melchester Rover's opponents in the first league match of the 1970-71 season. Problem is, no name is given to them in the comic strip. Anyone know who they are? | |

Mel Rovers wore those socks (red with yellow tops) from 1955-57, then reverted to them in 1986.

| Brilliant, they look really great. How many teams are you painting for the league?
I'm in the process of painting the 1976 Melchester team. Gave me another excuse to get the modelling clay out again. Spent about 5 hours on them so far and haven't got around to painting the strip yet !

| From details I've picked up about the 1967/68 Season, it seems there were 22 teams in the First Division, giving 42 games per team.
I've painted up 20+ teams at the moment (a few of these are Melchester Rovers themselves), and plan a few more during the course of this week.
Had a 'green splurge' yesterday ... aiming for the 'blue corner' tomorrow ... .

| Thanks, guys! Spurs: Yes, I used Shoot First Creator, then loaded the images into Graphic Converter and tweaked a few details (stripe on Melchester, etc), saved as .jpg and pulled them over onto the sticker label template supplied by Avery Labels. Gulls: Certainly does ... I'd 'skinned' a few teams earlier in the day, then ran off 3 predominantly green teams in late evening. Planning both a blue and a red day soon (I've the teams coloured coded on my Roy of the Rovers list). I'm still snapping up comics to make my list as comprehensive as possible. A major problem is many of the Roy of the Rovers stories are rendered in black and white | |
