| I don't mind polishing, as i'm useless without it. However, for the sake of keeping everyone happy, we should keep in mind our time limits for the day. Having played in many Oldsubbuteo Tournements now, and even at our Club flicks, the most annoying habit is having to wait around for people to polish all their players, then stick them in formation. Often with everyone else watching and tutting... Imho, that's plain rude and detracts away from the whole ethos of Oldsubbuteo, which is just as much about socialising and having some banter. I'm not too fond of talking to the top of someones head as they are furiously jerking their little man As for Oldsubbuteo Rules Steve...They've been put in place for Tournements and as a general guide. Many Oldsubbuteo Clubs have 'Local' Club rules that they enjoy. The Corner Kicker and Throw in figure being used is one. I think we were just all trying to find some common ground to bring some fun back to the Club and get numbers up again. Polishing between games, seemed to be the biggest bugbear... Maybe i'm wrong...but that's how i read it mate. | |

| so guys thats as clear as day then - not!! i mean we dont seem to really have common ground so far certainly not on polishing anyway. heard from vic by text and he is not keen to deviate from current rules/lionhearts procedure that we have used previously. the five defenders max was really just a fun idea to try and open up some games that can become a bit of a stalemate because you are staring at two walls/banks of players. perhaps this is best?:- 1)no polishing at half time in a match 2) polishing before each game allowed but pretty strict adherence to five minute break between each match to get your polishing done, take a leak, smoke a fag, etc. so if you are not ready then there is a penalty - eg,oppo has possession by way of a free kick in the offenders shooting area. as we often do, we will probably have a longer break of say 20 minutes halfway through the day to give everyones backs, eyes, brains and fingers a rest. 3) as many defenders as you like but perhaps TRY with five and see how you go. dont want this debate to go on forever gents so does anyone have a major problem with the above? | |

- Surely it’s about having a great oldsubby game with whoever we’re playing with and adapting to accommodate preferences.
Therefore my plan starts off as follows:
(i) Have a great pre-match discussion with Steviegee, about Saints marching on, whilst vigorously polishing our respective little men!
(ii) Have a 5 minute break to get my fag done, smoke a leak, and take some polish…
(iii) Rub off all polish play a ‘3-2-5’ formation polish-free game with Jim
(iv) Put polish back on and play old-spudduteo with Subbski
(v) Spend a 5-minute break revising on oldsubby rules before match with Vic, which makes it’s blatantly clear how much I’ve forgotten the rules! I'm not sure about rules banning polish and certain formations, however I do agree with the above rules I also like the unwritten rule, which seems to be that no player is allowed to take things serious enough to win two tournaments in a row TBH life is too short to start worrying about how many little bits of plastic i place near my goal at the start of a game of Subbuteo.... I'll try to make it for the next meeting, but other factors may stop me. Hopefully I can make it. I'll advise a bit nearer the date. Vic

| should be good gents,
reg has asked if he can restrict his number of games to every other match which will be four it appears.
so for those who are interested in the days and the ongoing league we will as usual base the table on points average not points total so reg's matches will count.

It’s not that Jon, but rather that when the club was formed, it was all about playing Subbuteo. I lost enthusiasm, after the club had problems with a few individuals a while back, and while my eagerness to play has slowly come back after those problems corrected themselves, this discussion about playing formations and polishing does diminish my enthusiasm to play retro Subbuteo somewhat. For various reasons, I haven’t enjoyed my last few Lionheart tournaments, as much as when the club was first formed. I only play 5 at the back, but I don’t mind if others play 10 – teams in football do that sometimes! And polishing doesn’t take that long. Playing Subbuteo in whatever format should be fun and relaxing! I’ll try and make the next meet, but going forwards it’s unlikely that I’ll be playing as much retro Subbuteo as I have in the past. Regards Vic

Don't know if Mark has contacted you, but spoke with him very briefly this afternoon, and he is now not coming tomorrow sadly.
Disappointing, I know, especially after you have gone to the trouble of doing the fixtures. Hope you get this message before tomorrow, if you don't already have the email he said he was going to send. I guess he doesn't have your telephone number?

| Great event and great to spend an afternoon with all the chaps! Standing in the rain for an hour, waiting for someone to unlock the venue...indulging in random subby-banter. I'm sure Reg had planned it deliberately to wear us down, thus levelling the playing field wot with his bad back! He was probably hiding round the corner in his heated car on the pretence of going round to someone's house to get the keys, whilst we all stood in the rain with muscles slowly seizing up! Quality all round - Lionhearts doing it well!! | |
