Totally escaped me that Saints would only have one day between matches. Shocking starting XI, and nothing on the bench to speak of. Had we been privvy to the team selection, a Leeds win would have been a common prediction I think, Gully.

I think in your position Adkins decided that full attention is needed on the league games. A cup run for a team at the bottom can be fatal.

I think it was simply an injury concern, Jon.
They played Sunday afternoon. Had one day rest, and were then being asked to travel up to Leeds and play a cup match.
Most players cover a good mileage in 90 minutes, and the body just can't recover fully in such a short time.
They had fielded a good strength side in previous rounds.

I wonder how much of a sing and dance we'd have gotten from Wenger and Ferguson if they were asked to play 2 games in 3 days.
I understand a request for a Wednesday night game was turned down.
Probably because Leeds would then have to do the same, given their Friday night fixture at Brighton.
TV is ruining football on so many levels.

I must start doing this earlier in the week went off to the game last night and forgot. Bloody Leeds
