Last 16, eh. Looking forward to the draw. Just playing the replays at the moment. The Man United v Leeds was a cracker after an extra time scoreline of 1 - 1 the match went to penalties. I put the goalie in the diving position on the line and the player has to stand centrally on the edge of the D. The rule is you have to smash the ball and not place it. The great thing is you have no idea where the ball will go and each team managed to miss three of the five, so it was sudden death. Gordon McQueen slammed his home so up stepped Trevor Cherry who smashed his high off the right hand post. United through 4 - 3. Cup holders Norwich were too strong at home to Swansea and took a half time lead of 3-0. Latchford pulled one back early in the second but Norwich came through 3-1. Last one to play Notts County v Wolves

| Notts County v Wolves
In the final replay Notts County took a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes (Richards, Harkouk) and threatened to swamp Wolves but Towner clawed one back in the final minute of the half. Wolves pressed forward early in the second period and Andy Gray almost leveled when his shot cannoned off a post. Notts held firm and with 15 minutes left Trevor Christie ran on to a pass to shoot past Burridge for 3-1. Iain McCulloch scored a 4th in the 85th minute when the ball spun up off of Burridge into the roof of the net 4-1.
Draw for the last 16 tomorrow.

| Live action from White Hart Lane Spurs take the game to Leicester in the early stages but the half ends all square. The best chance falling here to Archibald. Wallington pushes the rasping drive out for a corner. Straight from the restart Crooks is played through and looks a certain scorer, but again Wallington pulls off an incredible save. With 50 minutes gone Lineker threads a ball through to Lynex who shoots ........... The ball is pushed onto the post but (GOAL !) ends up in the back of the net. Spurs push forward for the remainder of the half with great efforts from Crooks and Archibald but cannot break through. With the match moving into the final minutes, a long ball finds Brazil on the edge of the area. He smacks it first time. It flies like a rocket into the bottom corner of the Leicester net 1 - 1. Spurs survive | |

| A bit worrying to find myself rooting for City to hang on and then being disappointed when they let one in at the death!
Not worrying in the how come I'm suddenly supporting Leicester, but more about how am I getting so involved in someone else's solo subbuteo tournament.
...come on you Saints! (don't tell me they let the game v Luton slip away too?!)

Oh, the heartache :-/ Yes it looked like the Saints were through and then Luton couldn't stop scoring in ET. Never mind there's always next year. Hopefully i will get a winner from the WBA/Notts County tie before the quarters take place !

| Finally after a third replay Notts County overcame WBA with a second half goal from McCulloch to play Man United in the Quarter finals.
Quarter finals ;
Manchester City 2 v Brighton 1.................Cross,Baker. (Brighton) Connor
Brighton went in front on 25 minutes, when Terry Connor hammered the ball home off the keeper into the roof of the net for a half time lead. City urged on by the home crowd found an equaliser on 55 minutes when Cross fired home from the edge of the area. Both sides pressed for the winner but it looked like stalemate with 89 minutes on the clock. City pumped one last hopeful ball forward which fell at the feet of Baker who lashed the ball home to send City into the semi finals.
Luton 3 v Leicester 0 ............................Horton,Walsh,Moss
Both sides had chances in the first half but the keepers were in fine form. Luton were wary about pushing too many forward against the League leaders but the crowd urged them forward. Lynex had several half chances for Leicester but Luton's Stein was well shackled. Horton was having a good game and surged forward. In the 35th minute, seeing a loose ball he steamed through the Leicester defence and connected at full pelt, the ball flew like a rocket past Wallington into the bottom corner. With the crowd roaring them on Luton scored a second within 5 minutes of the second half through Walsh. Leicester never recovered and David Moss sent Kenilworth Road crazy with a third.
Manchester United 1 v Notts County 0 .............Stapleton
This was Notts County's seventh match in the competition and they looked very jaded in a dour game. Stapleton scored midway through the first period and United kept a firm back line which Notts County never looked like breaking down.
Bolton 4 v Nottingham Forest 3 ................Caldwell 4. (Forest) Wallace 2, Birtles
The match of the round with Tony Caldwell hitting all four Bolton goals. It was Forest who took an early lead when Wallace blasted a shot which the goalie could not hold. Bolton kept playing short passes and eventually cut Forest open as Caldwell slipped a shot inside the post. Forest still looked in control but the game changed when Caldwell scored a second shock goal with only seconds remaining of the first half. Forest had hardly touched the ball on the restart as a long ball found Caldwell in space, with one touch he smashed the ball home for 3-1. Crest fallen Forest were a shadow of the team in the first period but were given a lifeline when Wallace finally found space to send the goalie the wrong way for 3-2. It was now all Forest as they piled forward. Bolton wilted under the pressure and Birtles went bonkers when he crashed in an equaliser on 80 minutes. Bolton kicked off again and Chandler sent a long ball down to Caldwell who swung a boot to send the ball past a flailing Van Breukelen 4-3.
(Now edited, thanks Ralph)

Well spotted Ralph ! I labeled Bolton up when I was doing 1982 and must have forgotten to change them. According to Wiki Whatmore was at Oxford United in 83/4 and went on loan to Bolton but only made 7 appearances for them. Just looked up Tony Caldwell and his 5 goals against Walsall while working part time as an electrician, so I'll give the 4 goals to him.

| Semi final results
Luton Town 2 v Manchester United 1 ...............Hill,og Robson (Man Utd) Robson
Robson gave Man United a half time lead, but Luton piled on the pressure in the second with Ricky Hill equalising in the 50th minute. On 70 minutes Robson deflected a shot past Bailey to send Luton to Wembley.
Bolton Wanderers 3 v Manchester City 2 ............Caldwell 3, (Man City) Cross, Reeves
A hat trick from Caldwell sent Bolton to the final with the clincher coming in the second period of extra time. Bolton twice took the lead only for City to come back to force extra time, but Caldwell decided it hammering a pass from Rudge low into the corner.
